Why the name
"Hi Jolly"? Well, here's the story...
Camels once roamed the Arizona deserts. In 1855, Secretary of War Jefferson Davis came up with the idea of using camels to transport
supplies across the desert. A Syrian camel drover, Hadji Ali, was hired to teach the soldiers how to handle the animals. The Americans had a hard time pronouncing Ali's name, so
they nicknamed him "Hi Jolly". The camel experiment was not a success, but Hi Jolly remained in Arizona, where he died in 1902.
